[MULTICHANNEL RETAIL] : One line without design

I sometimes do shopping on Amazon Website. I generally buy books, the ones my bookshop can’t provide; perfect example of cross-channel retailing.
If everyone can be impressed by Amazon’s success, there is a part of their activity they never improved : the depressing web design.
What about “Rue du Commerce”? (regardless of the recent site modification), Ozon? (and its undeniable success) : same sadness.
The question is “Why?” No idea… but I deplore it. The next question is  “For how long?” Not for long – I hope!
Those players don’t have that much real competitors; it does not mean competition is away. Brands, retailers, “curated by” Websites are becoming more and more attractive and efficient.
Even if department stores, shopping centers are for now lagging behind regarding one line sales, let’s hope those players will drive the design quality up…
