[MULTICHANNEL RETAIL] : Vending machines, a (new) concept?

I wouldn’t say those machines  – as described in the article – are a new concept… and certainly not a “cross canal” concept, when :
-The digital element is just a product’s description
-You can only chose and buy products available – and already selected – in the machine
What is it then? For now, only a good old self-service box, existing years ago in Metro stations or public places, then disappeared, and just brought back to date…
